The Heyrovský and Nobel Mural

Mural of Jaroslav Heyrovský on the Academy of Sciences grounds in Prague 8

Who will win the next Nobel Prize?

The mural at the trail’s first stop portrays Jaroslav Heyrovský, so far the only Czech winner of a Nobel Prize in the natural sciences. Care to guess who will be next? Feel free to bring chalk and add your own predictions!

The painting also recalls an event from 1870, when Alfred Nobel opened a dynamite factory in Prague 8. The playful line “I had no idea I would be torn apart like this” alludes to that event and adds a touch of perspective to local history. Science really is all around us!

The mural is the work of Josefína Jonášová and Štěpán Jílek. It was created on the initiative of Vladislava Vojtíšková, editor-in-chief of VědaVýzkum.cz and a councillor of Prague 8, with the support of the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry and the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
