Binary Perspective

Digital technology is almost invisible today — networks, clouds and artificial intelligence. Yet even the most complex algorithm inevitably runs on physical hardware.

This sculpture, made from recycled computer components, reveals those hidden foundations. It represents 0 and 1, the binary alphabet of every computer. It reminds us that genuine basic research is not just about incremental improvement. In the end it is a bold leap from zero to one.

Seen from another angle, however, the structure forms the letters “UI”. The cipher refers both to the Institute of Computer Science (Ústav informatiky) and to artificial intelligence. In English it also sounds like “U and I” — a quiet reminder that behind every artificial intelligence stands a human one.
